T² Certified by the Fiber to the Home Council

T² Communications has been named a “Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Certified Service Provider” by the FTTH Council. This distinction is awarded to companies actively utilizing FTTH to provide services to customers and strategically committed to deploying fiber optics in the future.

T²’s all-fiber optic network, which offers each customer up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) in bandwidth, is currently located in several neighborhoods in Holland Charter and Park Townships (Holland, MI) with continued plans to expand across these townships. The use of an all-fiber optic network allows companies like T² to deliver maximum bandwidth to all its customers. T² subscribers have access to all-IP based phone, television and internet services all over a single strand of fiber optics.

While other providers have been using fiber optics as part of their network for many years, the idea of bringing the fiber right into the home is relatively new. Traditional phone and cable providers typically do use fiber optics to deploy their network to a neighborhood. However, once in a neighborhood, they typically switch to copper lines to build down streets and enter homes.

Fiber to the Home has only recently entered the public consciousness, but is quickly gaining traction with homeowners and developers across the globe. In 2006 alone, Fiber to the Home subscriber growth in the United States increased 236%. The FTTH Council estimates that if current trends continue, nearly a quarter of the homes in the United States will have access to FTTH by 2011. This is tremendous growth, especially when compared to copper and coax networks, which took 90 and 50 years respectively to reach 90% of U.S. homes.

Not only is Fiber to the Home beneficial when it comes to providing services, but it has also shown to increase home valuations. Research recently conducted by RVA & Associates, a market research corporation based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, found that FTTH can add about $5000 to the price of a home. Additionally, customers with FTTH have the ability to select technologies that take advantage of the bandwidth.
