Many will say that email and social networking have ruined relationships, communication, and productivity.  And there is much to be said about the texting industry’s effect on people’s spelling; but there are good and bad effects of every form of technology.  Social networking, when abused, can destroy relationships, diminish productivity, and ruin a person’s image.  Email can be bad just as bad.  For example, if a hasty message is sent out of anger or sarcasm, it can be misinterpreted and cannot be taken back, therefore impairing relationships and personal images.  This happens when these forms of communication are used incorrectly and abused.  However, when used correctly and effectively, both email and social networking can enhance our communication.

Focus can be really easy for some, and very difficult for others.  It’s Monday: “Okay, lots to do!  Time to focus.  Where to start?  Umm…”  There are deadlines to meet and efficiency is always important.  Our projects and workload take skill, determination and focus to complete.  Hopefully, skill and determination are already in place, but even when they are it is easy to become distracted and overwhelmed.  Focusing can be the biggest struggle.  E-mails, phone calls, people popping in our office for a quick question, and having a lot to do can bombard us and keep us from getting any real work done.  Anything we can do to help ourselves get started or finished easier, quicker, and more efficiently is great for us and our…

Google Wave Aims to be the Next Unifying Platform

This week, Google Wave is being released in beta testing to 100,000 users.  Originally unveiled at a developer conference earlier this year,  Google is taking the foundations of e-mail and adding to it critical elements of instant messaging, social networking and file sharing.  Google touts it as e-mail as if it was created today.

And while there continues to be bugs that need to be worked out, this large scale test is a final step toward the release of a new, major communication tool.  Much like Twitter, SMS, IM and Twitter, Google Wave stands to change the way we interact.  How will this new experience enhance how we communicate in more socially conscious environment?  More importantly, how does it benefit the end user versus other communication tools…
